WordPress: Adding a Widget

Widgets in WordPress are ways to customize your site or blog by adding content to your sidebars. This guide will show you how to add a Widget to your site.

  1. Login to your WordPress Dashboard. From the main left menu, scroll over Appearance and click on Widgets. Each theme has slightly different options when it come to Widgets. You should see a section with Available Widgets and another that shows your sidebar. There are most likely already some Widgets in your sidebar, which you can edit or remove.
  2. To add a Widget, select one from the Available Widgets and drag it to the sidebar section. You can change the position of the Widgets by dragging them to the order you would prefer.
  3. The Widget should expand, or you can click the arrow to expand it, to allow you to customize the Widget. Once you have done this, click Save.
  4. Now you can visit your site and view the Widget.

If you ever would like to remove a Widget, you can simply drag it from the sidebar or expand it and click Delete.
